Kate
Meehan has often been referred to one of the country’s
best Female Blues performers, but for the average
Australian, she is a relatively unknown talent.
This album no doubt confirms that she certainly
is up there with the best. Originally hailing from
Tasmania, in her lengthy career she has demonstrated
a passion for blues and a love for performing.
The
title track has plenty of soul and sets a great
atmosphere for the proceeding tracks on the album.
There are plenty of up beat piano tunes, catchy
lyrics & swinging guitar-fuelled rifts. The overall
sound is big, bold and brassy. The music is well
written and the melodies strong. An ambitous Kate
can credit 5 of these tracks to her own song writing
talent. ‘Lets go Back’ featuring the soulful voice
of Don Hopkins of Mumbo Fever, another of the country’s
Blues’ greats, is a definate highlight. ‘I’m a woman’
would also be a favourite, although not an original
musical idea, it is done quite nicely.
‘As
long as I’ve sung the Blues” dose not burst through
the barriers of blues music but Kate delivers another
spirited performance. The album is raw, but has
enough style and perky tunes to lift the corners
of your mouth.
