GONE TO EARTH - KILLING FLOWERS
by Dave S.

"I think the goal for Gone To Earth is to tour as much as we can this coming year, as well as release an album in the near future" states Porl Shaiman, bassist for Gone To Earth. Quite an achievable goal one would think, considering the great support they have been recieving from Triple J.

Gone To Earth are a three piece hailing from Adelaide, South Australia. They formed in August of '98. Last year the track Mildred’s Modern Way from their debut EP V received high rotation on Triple J. They also had the pleasure of playing live on Triple J's Oz Music Show twice in the one year (apparently George is the only other band to have acheived this). The station definitely loves Gone To Earth, the new single Kill Flowers has found a home on their latest playlists. When Porl was asked about whether the airplay helped bring the punters to the shows, he stated "The bands audience has been growing not only through airplay, but through touring the capital cities, as well as regional areas".

Musically the band have been inspired by many greats - Jason Faulkner, Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, XTC & The Beach Boys just to name a few. "I have always been a music lover since I can remember. My first concert was The Beach Boys at an early age, and that got me into listening to music constantly. Musically, I have been inspired by so many, but David Sylvian would be biggest inspiration" stated Porl.

For those of you wondering how Gone To Earth chose their band name, Porl revealed "The band name is an album title by David Sylvian, as well as movie from the 40's".

Gone To Earth have a dozen or so shows to play in September, including a show with Big Heavy Stuff on the 20th September @ the Enigma Bar in Sydney'. So what's around the corner for Gone To Earth?

"There is a new single scheduled in the next few months. Still weighing up which will be the single. An album will be recorded in the new year".
