Zephyr
Timbre are a Brisbane 4-piece whom it is almost
impossible to put a label on. They take elements
of every genre - rock, funk, soul, groove, and any
other you could care to name - and weave them together
to create a sound quite unlike anything else. Their
self-titled second EP contains 4 tracks that will
assault your senses, and leave you wondering just
what it is exactly that makes this music so instantly
infectious.
Triple
J listeners will be familiar with opener "Abstrakt
Fusion", an entrancing, slinky piece of sound, with
frontwoman Manta Ray carrying the song on her seductive
vocals. The repeated plea is to "let yourself go",
and who are we to deny? This band produces music
that is nothing short of captivating, and having
supported acts such as Endorphin, Skunkhour and
george, they are well and truly on their way up.
The
rest of the EP follows in the same vein of the first
track, proving to be intense yet mellow, upfront
yet laidback. I'm not sure how Zephyr Timbre do
it, but they do it well. If you're looking to try
something a little different on for size, chase
up this recording and see what you think. My bet
is that you'll dig it.
