george - She Smiles (T. Noonan, N. Stewart, C. Carlton) From the 'Special Ones' single ------------------------------------------------- Tabbed by James Garvey (funky_j_82@h...) Any suggestions, modifications, corrections, tab requests, etc are more than welcome... Thanks to Wes for the inspiration to get these out there! Another beautiful b-side! Two acoustics this time I think (maybe Wes can clear that up, because I'm having real trouble distinguishing each part!) At any rate, I have tabbed this for two guitars. Again, I'm not sure on the lyrics, but for the most part they fit. Some adventurous soul might like to tab out the tenor sax solo too... This is capoed on fret 3, which had me stumped me for ages trying to figure out what the hell was going on with these crazy chords!!! It's all plucked with a plectrum except for the bridge and the end, which is strummed. I'll call the guitar playing the main melody "Guitar 1", and the other guitar - wait for it - "Guitar 2" (genius!). All tabs are relative to the capo (i.e. fret 1 = fret 4, fret 2 = fret 5 etc) ------- PART 1 ------- This part is played in the intro (Guitar 1 only) and both guitars repeated once for each of the first three lines of each verse stanza (i.e. "From the...", "She cried...", "Trying to..." etc) Guitar 1 E -------0-------------0---------------------------------- B ---------1-------------0----------0-----1-----0--------- G -----0-----0------0------0------0----------------------- D ---2------------0-------------2-------2-----2-----2----- A -3------------2-------------0-------0-----0-----0------- E -------------------------------------------------------- Guitar 2 E ----------------------------10->--8->-3-------------------- B --5--8------------5------------------------------------- G --------7------7-----5---------------------------------- D ----------------------------12->-10->-5------------------------ A ---------------------7----------------------------------- E -------------------------------------------------------- When you come to the end of the third stanza line, Guitar 1 doesn't hit the last 2 notes, but lets the B string ring on an open D note. ------- PART 2 ------- This part is repeated for each last line of the verse stanza, plus for the chorus Guitar 1 E -------------------------------------------------------- B -------------------------------------------------------- G ------4-----4-5-----4--------------5--------------4----- D ----3-----3-------3-----3--------7---7----------5---5--- A --5-----5-------5-----5--------7-------7------5-------5- E ---------------------------4>5-----------5--3----------- Guitar 2 E ------7--8--7--8--7------------------------------------- B --10-----------------10---8------------------------------ G -------------------------------------------------------- D -------------------------------------------------------- A -------------------------10------------------------------- E -------------------------------------------------------- Before the chorus finishes (after "...wastiiing"), Guitar 1 strums Guitar 1 E ---x--- B ---3--- G ---4--- D ---5--- A ---5--- E ---3--- ------- Part 3 ------- This part is played in the bridge, and I'm not sure if its 100%, because theres a lot of noise... Guitar 1 E ---------------0--------------0-------------0-------------0-------- B ---------------0--------------0-------------1-------------1-------- G ---------------0--------------0-------------2-------------2-------- D ------------2-----2-------2------2-------3-----3-------3-----3----- A ----------2---------2---2----------2---3---------3---3---------3--- E --(3-1)-0-------------0--------------1-------------1-------------1- E ---------0-------------0--------------0-------------1-------- B ---------0-------------0--------------1-------------0-------- G ---------0-------------0--------------2-------------0-------- D ------2-----2-------2------2-------3-----3-------0-----0----- A ----2---------2---2----------2---3---------3---2---------2--- E --0-------------0--------------1-------------3-------------- Guitar 2 E -------3---- B --1----0---- G --2----0---- D --3----0---- A --3----2---- E --1----3---- The notes in parentheses are only played the first time around. Guitar 2 strums these chords softly at "...wanting to die..." ------- Part 4 ------- This is played in the last chorus. Again, I can't distinguish exactly what each guitar is playing, but it sounds damn close to this Guitar 1 E ----------------------------------------------------- B --------1-----------0-----------0-----------0-------- G ------0---0-------0---0-------0---0-----------0------ D ----2-------2---0-------0---2-------2-----0-----0---- A --3-----------2-----------0-------------2------------ E --------------------------------------3-------------- Guitar 2 E ----------------------------------------------------- B ----------------------------------------------------- G -------0--------------------------------------------- D -(2-3)---3-2---2-3-2---2-3-2---0-3-2----------------- A -------------3-------0------------------------------- E -----------------------------3----------------------- This is repeated until the "Cos she smiles..." line, where Part 2 is repeated For Guitar 1 either pluck the notes out or strum them, it still sounds fine. The notes in parentheses at the start of Guitar 2's part here are only played the first time around. LYRICS Intro ------- Verse 1 Stanza 1 ------- From the days of December She cried to September Trying to remember Why he lied. Stanza 2 ------- From the wash of the ocean Her bones bleached and broken Choking and a-floating 'til she died Chorus ------- 'Cos my conscience is worth More than three lies Just look in my eyes You're wasting your life Solo ------- Verse 2 Stanza 1 ------- In the wake of the mirror A promise undelivered So cold she shivers 'til she sighs Stanza 2 ------- Her eyes' lost emotion They sway in slow motion But I'm still (softly hoping?) That she might Chorus ------- Bridge ------- Where she waits tired And wanting to die Chorus ------- Cos my conscience is worth more than three lies more than three lies less than three lives just look in my eyes you're wasting your life mo-ore than three lies Cos she smiles...
