Webster Biography

A little under 4 years ago Webster began their quest for the blissful rock moment. Their rapid rise to popularity followed a lightning word of mouth buzz surrounding their live shows and a 'catch me if you can' approach to their music. A quickly (and cheaply) recorded demo caught the attention of Velvet Urge who immediately released it as a single. Not suprisingly the self titled debut went on to grace airwaves across the country and garnered a SingleOfTheWeek from Sydney's OnTheStreet magazine.

[Webster] A successful trip to Sydney and surrounds playing with the likes of You Am I and Powderfinger and a well received response from both press and public alike saw the band return to the studio to record that difficult second ep. The resulting 'nugget' ep was quickly pounced on by local label Emily Records late 1994 and subsequently released a few months later. The powerful yet eclectic 'nugget' featured another independent radio fave in 'shazza' which also went on to score some light airplay on JJJ and MMM. The band were well rewarded for their efforts with a prime billing on Livid 95 and a change of management to Valhalla Mgt. joining the likes of Powderfinger and Turtlebox on the roster.

With an ever-increasing fanbase and a growing reputation for blistering live shows the band have been busy spreading their message throughout the country playing support to some of Australia's big guns including You Am I, Powderfinger, Tumbleweed, Pollyanna, Ammonia, The Clouds and Custard.

Sustaining themselves on a strict diet of booze, cigarettes, old Urge Overkill, Replacements and 20/20 records the band, with knob-twiddler Mark McElligott in tow and a clutch of new ideas, spent a hectic 4 days in Sunshine Studios recording the follow-up to the 'nugget' ep.

'walk it like ya talk it' finds the band further down the road on their journey towards the perfect pop song. This release is unashamedly bouyant and upbeat. From the ragged alluring grace of the ep opener J55 to Dig it Maree's raucous rhythm to the hook-laden singalong of Mainline and the casual country swagger of Ginger Freewheel, Webster are delivering the goods that 'nugget' only hinted at. This release smacks of class. Their brand of hard pop-heavy rock sees them take a confident step towards their relentless pursuit for pop perfection.

'walk it like ya talk it' ??? ...indeed they do. See for yourself.
