Steven: I dont think weve ever seen it as being a permanent thing. People seem to assume that youre ditching Brisbane by going somewhere else... its not the case at all.
Paul: Were in this stage at the moment where were playing in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne as much as each other... Weve been playing more in Sydney at the moment, more that Melbourne even though were living there and in the next couple of months well be back to Brisbane two or three times. Its created a nice sort of shot in the arm, a bit of spark to be surrounded by heaps of new bands, heaps of new pubs, heaps of new punters. Its a good place to hang out and see a lot of bands... I mean thats what we do... were into music and its a good place for it.
LIVID 97: And what of the benefits of playing in Melbourne?
Steven: Well if you do a gig at The Punters or The Evelyn say you can play the next night in St. Kilda and know that theres going to be no one there who saw you the night before.
Paul: Theres not much in town. Its sort of decentralised set up really.
Steven: People seem to go to their local and theres such a big choice of locals to go to. I love being within the walking distance of ten pubs. Theres a bit of a temptation to spend a week of nights going from pub to pub.
LIVID 97: Having recently read a glowing review of your Walk it Like ya Talk it EP by Richard Kingsmill, just how important is it these days to get the Triple J stamp of approval?
Paul: I dont know if its all Richard Kingsmill at Triple J... but all those things add up. Helen Razors been pretty good to us. I think she seems to have a bit of interest in Brisbane bands. It all makes a difference. Its all exposure.
Steven: Obviously it means a lot to get that stamp of approval from someone like Richard Kingsmill who youve sort of always admired and respected in terms of being maybe The Man for Oz music in a way. Hed know music better than I would and he likes television which is a good thing.
LIVID 97: Aside from music, what do you guys get into in your spare time:
Steven: Weve been going to the footy a lot. The MCG is becoming a bit of a hangout.
Paul: Ive been kicking a footy a bit... trying to get a soccer team together and we get the Aussie rules ball out occasionally and were trying to get a frisbee... an ultimate disc side together as well. Were trying to get people out and about. Melbournites can be a bit insular sometimes but come spring and summer its going to be nice.
